Introducing Alef and Bet

As we learned about the Torah in preparation for Simchat Torah, our Morahs talked to us about the different kinds of letters we would see inside the Torah. The Torah isn’t written in English but in Hebrew, so this week we did a lot of activities using the first two Hebrew letters, Aleph and Bet/Beis. We built the letters using blocks, playdough, and buttons. In another center we traced the letters in salt using our pointer fingers.

All this practice prepared us for a special trip upstairs we took to visit the shul. We got to kiss the Torah and look inside to find the Aleph Bet letters we recognized.
